FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

+ My Leather has started showing wrinkles. Is this a warranty issue?

Leather is a natural product so every hide is different. All areas have slightly different properties, depending on which part of the animal it comes from i.e. tough shoulders, or softer belly areas. As there are multiple hides used to produce seat covers, the leather will almost always be different in every vehicle, and over time will stretch or relax in different ways.

Wrinkles form over time and are unique to each hide area, similar to crease lines that form on our hands and faces etc. These wrinkles are normal and not a concern although unfortunatley leather is not self repairing.

This is not a manufacturing defect and therefore is not a warranty concern. It is one of the many the unique properties of leather.

+ How can you tell real leather from fake leather (vinyl)?

Faux leather, or vinyl, is made with a plastic base and is treated with dyes, waxes and other materials to provide it with colours and textures to match the look of real leather.

The "Push Test" usually will show the difference. Real leather will show crease lines, similar to lines on your hands, while vinyl will tend to stretch and roll more.

+ How dark can I tint my car windows?

At RVE we tint to the legal limit of 35% VLT (Visible Light Transmittance level) on all passenger vehicles and the front doors of NA Class vehicles (Utes) and MC Class vehicles (SUV's).

On MC class SUVs and NA class utes, anything rear of the front doors can be tinted as dark required, for example 20% and 5% VLT. NZTA have set these rules for WOF and safety reasons. Most insurance companies will refuse claims if vehicle has been illegally modified.

On front windscreens, stickers or tint strip overlays may not be applied, except if allowed or required by or under any Act, regulation or rule, unless they are wholly within: a. 100 mm from the top or bottom edges; or b. 50 mm from the side edges;

+ Are holes drilled in the vehicle body when installing my RVE roller shutter lid?

The lid clamps to the tray without drilling. Although most vehicles have rubber grommets available, some vehicles may require 2x small holes to be drilled through the front of the tray to allow water drainage. These are fully rust proofed and sealed to prevent any possible rusting.

+ My electric lid does not operate when I press the remote button

A1: Check if fuse has blown. This is found within engine compartment inline on red wire, +/- 15cm from vehicle battery.

A2: Check if remote light comes on when pressing the buttons – if not, remote battery may need replacing.

A3: Press button on control unit integrated onto the RVE Shutterlid cartridge. If it works, but not on remote, remote may need re-programming or replacement. See https://www.rve.co.nz/lid-guides for programming

A4: If none of the above works, contact your dealership or RVE installation agent. If you need urgent operation of the unit, you can insert the manual override key into the designated hole until the motor-drive is released.

+ My electric lid does not fully close

A1: Check side tracks are clear of any sticks or debris

A2: Clean and lubricate siderail slots. Apply some silicone lubricant spray to rear lower edge of the RVE Shutterlid, to overcome any friction it may encounter when sliding onto the tailgate.

A3: Try and close the lid with the engine running, as this provides more power to the unit for optimal operation.

A4: If none of the above works, contact your dealership or RVE installation agent.

+ My Shutterlid does not fully open

Avoid operating the RVE Shutterlid, as this may cause damage to the outer surface of the shutters. Contact your dealership or RVE installation agent.
